While U.S. Talks Withdrawal, Afghan Corruption Soars

A new report says little has been accomplished to end the relationship between corruption and the conflict in Afghanistan despite a decade of U.S.-led military efforts.

The International Crisis Group's 46-page report provides sobering analysis of a culture of corruption in Afghanistan, which includes collusion with the Taliban at high levels of government.

It says violence and billions of dollars in international aid have brought wealthy officials and insurgents together. The result is an economy increasingly dominated by what the report calls a "criminal oligarchy of politically connected businessmen."

The report comes after a week when President Barack Obama sought to highlight the military gains in Afghanistan. He said he would pull out 10,000 soldiers this year and 23,000 more by the end of next summer. He didn't mention corruption.

It's a shame, but we do have a corrupt democracy!! Votes sold away to highest bidder everyday in DC by BOTH partys!!!! ELECTION REFORM!!! Now. Let's take back our country from the special interests and give it back to the people!!! Novel idea huh??!!

Why would Barack mention corruption. That would only draw attention to his own corrupt party. "One and Done" I say. Count on it!!!

If you can't see/understand that it's scary!!! I can EASILY name many incidents where BOTH partys sold us out. Here's a couple: 1) NAFTA passed during Clinton re-ratfied under Bush, 2) regulations put in place during the last depression e.g. Glass/Stegal stripped away during Clinton and Bush yrs. The middle class has stagnated and/or loss ground for the past 30 yrs!! Hey, that's under BOTH partys. Both partys are owned by special interests, and do as they're told. USA has the best politicians money can buy. If you believe otherwise you're living in a fantasy world!! Take a look at the Gini coefficient for past 30 yrs!! Neither party willing to address this FACT!! Also, Neither party will support: Election reform nor giving up any of the 5 billion per yr budget used to run their offices??!! Why can't they(both partys) give up something??!!

I feel the democrats are the more dishonest and wish to take from producers and give to nonproducers. As they do this they want to expand the number of those nonproducers in order to get those votes and stay in power. Are both parties corrupt? Of course. Lesser of two evils in my mind. You can take that Gini Coefficient to the extreme if you wish. If everyone has zero then we are all equal. Equality? Sounds good but I'm willing to work harder, get more information, earn state and federal licenses and so on, so I can do better than the "equals" that wish to sit back and benefit from the labor of others. Not against helping those that need it, but am dead set against giving to those that feel they "deserve" it. Still I say "Obama" One and Done" Count on it!!! It's the only rational choice. If not we all will end up much closer to zero with a ruling class elite being the top heavy part.
