Vehicle Explodes On Afghan Runway; Panetta Safe

The Pentagon says an Afghan drove an apparently stolen vehicle onto the ramp area of a British airfield in southern Afghanistan and into a ditch, where it exploded in flames, about the same time U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta's aircraft was landing.

A Pentagon spokesman, Navy Capt. John Kirby, said no one in Panetta's party was injured.

Kirby said the vehicle, a pickup truck, drove at high speed onto the ramp where Panetta's plane was intended to stop. He said there was no immediate indication that the Afghan was attempting to attack Panetta's party, but the circumstances were still being pieced together.

Initial reports said no explosive devices were found in the vehicle or in a search of the driver.
Kirby said the driver was being treated for burn injuries.

just cant believe, that the American troops, in a war zone had to put down their weapons for this panetta clown, what are these so called politicans thinking. its time to get out of there period. bring our troops home and let those people take care of their own..as far as the young soldier who shot at the people there, back in 2010, he had severe brain injury, and this was his 3rd tour there, he probably broke under pressure, he needs help from the VA and NOT A TRIAL

I can see Panetta not trusting the Afghan troops with weapons near him, but not to trust the USA troops is just wrong. When the leaders don't trust the troops that sends a very wrong signal.

This reminds me of some nautical history. There was an attempt to train monkeys to run to the powder hold area on enemy ships with dynamite strapped to their backs. It seemed like a good idea at the time in theory, but in practice it fell short. You can't factor in differences in a ship design, exact positions of storage, primate distractability, and the timing of a fuse, I guess. The end result was insulting the crew by exploding a monkey on the deck and making a really disgusting mess. Ew. Gotta love the entertainment value of someone that does nothing but blow themselves up as a statement. Why is it exactly that he's receiving medical care?

Ha Ha HA...This guy was no better than Achmed. Our troops should never lay down arms in a war zone...and for the sec of defense, really. You can tell that none of our Higher government ever served this country.

Afterwards, in his meeting with our military forces stationed there, the US Marines were required to disarm and leave their weapons outside of the tent where Panetta was speaking. This was because they had made the Afgans leave their weapons outside also. We really need to get out of here. The leader of this country is taking money from both sides and is just as big a crook as the Taliban were.

You're wishing harm to an American official via an act of terrorism? I don't agree with this administration or Secretary Panetta much, but what you are suggesting is treasonous and in support of terrorist action intending to hurt Americans. If you dislike this government so much that you would like such a thing to happen, you had better re-check your values pronto, leave this country, or be investigated yourself. Your post is the eight of anti-Americanism, shame on you and anyone that wishes this nation harm.
