Supporters Hold Boot Camp For Kids Of Fallen

About 50 children whose parents lost their lives in the service of their country are participating in a special outdoor adventure boot camp.

The volunteer group known as the "Army's Army" is organizing Saturday's event to teach the children a few outdoor survival skills. Group official Janine West says the children will build a shelter in the woods, start a fire without matches, purify water and identify poisonous wildlife.

Amy Melendez of the group Survivor Outreach Services says the event allows the children and their families a chance to relax and meet with other survivors' families.

The event is to be held at Camp Mackall and is being led by Gordon Smith, who spent 26 years with Army Special Forces. There is no charge for participation.
