Contractors are putting the finishing touches on a home in Onslow County before they hand over the keys to a Purple Heart combat veteran.

There are a few fixtures left to install in the home in Richlands, but the director of construction with the Purple Heart Homes organization says they are in good shape to hand the keys to the 3 bedroom 2 bath home to veteran Jim Davis. Davis was disabled after several tours of duty covering Panama, Desert Storm, and the Persian Gulf. After his family lost their home to an arsonist last June, they're looking forward to not only a new home but one where Davis can get around in his wheelchair without any problems.

"I was literally stuck to my kitchen and living room. It's like being a prisoner in your own home. There's not a room in this house I can't get to," said Davis.

The entire project cost the Purple Heart Homes group $230,000 and the Davis family doesn't have to worry about any cost.
