President Speaks About Libya

President Barack Obama says the situation in Libya remains fluid and uncertain. But he says longtime leader Moammar Gadhafi's nearly 42-year-old regime is coming to an end.

After a five month NATO-led bombing campaign, Obama said the situation in Libya reached a tipping point in recent days. However, Obama says there are elements of the regime that remain a threat.

Libyan rebels are claiming control of most of the capital city of Tripoli. However, U.S. officials say Gadhafi's whereabouts remain unknown.

Obama spoke from his rented vacation home in Martha's Vineyard, Mass.

The President announced today that the recent east coast earthquake revealed three major faults running through Washington DC. "Bushes Fault" the "Tea Parties Fault" and the largest and most dangerous "Certainly Not Obamas Fault". Serious aftershocks should be expected and a major quake is predicted along "Certainly Not Obamas Fault" on or very near Nov. 2012. "One and Done" Count on it!!!

The national Tea Party movement appears to have lost some ground in popular support after the blistering debate over raising the nation’s debt ceiling in which Tea Party Republicans in the U.S. House and Senate fought any compromise on taxes and spending. Fourteen percent of Americans consider themselves strong supporters of the Tea Party movement, and, perhaps not coincidentally, 12% of the public consists of conservative Republicans who wanted members of Congress who shared their views on the budget to hold out for a deal they could agree with.

Americans are plenty angry at the Republican controlled Congress in the aftermath of the debt crisis and Republicans could pay the greatest price, a new Associated Press-GfK poll suggests. The poll finds the tea party has lost support, Republican House Speaker John Boehner is increasingly unpopular and people are warming to the idea of not just cutting spending but also raising taxes – anathema to the GOP – just as both parties prepare for another struggle with deficit reduction.

In 31 months of Barack Obama’s presidency, according to the Treasury and CBS News, the US has added $4 trillion to its national debt. That approaches the presidential record set by George W. Bush of $4.9 trillion, but there’s a catch to that. Bush set that record in two terms — in 96 months.

Bush coddled Libya and forgave them for their past terrorist activities like the Lockerbie Pan Am flight bombing and the bombing of a disco in Munich. All Libya had to do was give up its pursuit of its nascent nuclear program. Thus, Bush coddled terrorists and did not even capture bin Laden at Tora Bora and later said he had other "priorities" besides the killing or capture of bin Laden. It took Obama to order a daring raid to kill bin Laden when a bombing campaign from the air would have been the safest course. Obama has used our predator drones much more frequently and with more deadly intent than Bush. Bush talked the talk and was all swagger, but Obama is walking the walk and not alienating the Muslim masses in the process.

Obama did not increase the use of Predator drones, the military did, over the years since the war began, technology has improved. Obama has not changed any of the polices that Bush was using in the War on Terrorism. Obama had NOTHING to do with the killing of Bin Laden other than being president at the time. Why is it the Obama supporters always give Obama the credit for getting Bin Laden and not once mention the Navy Seals or the other military members fighting overseas?

I see your point, I assumed some people would grasp the connection with the spending of our tax money in Libya, unsantioned by Congress, by Obama only. So what did it cost? Who is going to pay for it? Who is going to pay for Yemen and the missles we are firing there by unauthorized funds? The point, if this was Bush doing this, you would have demanded his head ,just like your side would have demanded that the seals only capture Bin Ladin and bring him for trial in NYC. Well, we get the double standard and we know its OK to spend money without our permission even with the massive debts our next two generations will be paying for. How did that massive ego gratification thing go for you? Did you find a higher paying job, 401K really getting up there...gas prices come down?

The intell was given to all to make a decision. If Bush would have done that by himself, the democrats would have fought him, however, since your memory is very short, thats no what happened. Bush knew there were no WMDs and persuaded Congress to go to war. The phrase "you're either with us, or against us" and similar variations are used to depict situations as being polarized and to force witnesses and bystanders to become allies or lose favor. The implied consequence of not joining the team effort is to be deemed an enemy.

So the fact that Saddam would not let the UN inspect his country for over a month has no bearing at all or the fact that the CIA had a mountain of evidence, photo's and documents, stating that Saddam was producing chemical and biological weapons mean nothing. Look you can use all the excuses you want but that does not change the fact the liberals are wrong on this, we had more then enough evidence to invade Iraq, we had the approve of just about everyone, but keep lying to yourselves if it makes you feel better.

So what else has Obama done right? Zip, Nada, Zero, Nothing, Zilch........The man is still a far left zealot and the most polarizing president to ever hold office. If Bush had eliminated Osams bin laden and had been part of the elimination of Gadhafi with limited envolvement of the US, he would be lifted up by the GOP as a great foreign policy leader. The double standard here is too obvious for words. A Senate Foreign Relations Committee report says that Osama bin Laden was within the grasp of U.S troops in December 2001, but bin Laden was allowed to escape into the Afghan mountains. The Daily News reports, "The report asserts that the failure to get the terrorist leader when he was at his most vulnerable in December 2001 - three months AFTER the 9/11 attacks - led to today's reinvigorated insurgency in Afghanistan." The report says, "The failure to finish the job represents a lost opportunity that forever altered the course of the conflict in Afghanistan and the future of international terrorism."

Repugnants like McCain are weighing in now on how they would have done it and what we (Obama) did wrong. This reminds me of all the Bush stooges rushing on Fox when Bin Laden got killed trying to find a way to take credit. We need to be acknowledge when things go right and own up when things are done wrong, regardless of who is in power. This is not over and the various tribes could start fighting among themselves as they did in Iraq. We always assume these people want democracy and that is not always the case, but the Libyan people are highly educated and hopefully will make the right choices going forward.

To those reading some blogger on swampbubble-you can go directly to public government sources regarding the salaries and pensions of congress! They are not paid a salary for life! They become vested after 5 years, but cannot draw retirement until serving 20 years and 52/ or 25years. That retirement is based on time served and contributions-just like any other job! They do contribute to SS and that, too, is treated the same way it is for the rest of us! The also have the right to medical insurance, but it is not free-they have to pay depending on the policy they choose. This has been the law since 1984 and is public information.
