Officials: Unit's Leader Involved In Urination Video

One of the marines in the video where troops appear to be urinating on Taliban corpses in Afhganistan was the unit's leader, according to McClatchy Newspapers.

The company which runs The News & Observer was told by officials that the unit had disciplinary problems while at Camp Lejeune, before it deployed overseas.

The four marines in the video, as well as the person recording the video have been identified as members of a sniper squad from the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines.

The investigation is still ongoing.

to reply to my earlier post; it seems I offened some with my first comment. I am not defending their actions; mearly stating that those fighting the war should deal with those involved. meaning their leaders should discipline them, not us. I am Like luis not condoning their actions but understanding it. also im not saying dont be offended at their actions; but I dont see why your not more offended at the very act of war itself. this is not a defensive war it is offensive and on foreign soil; what if anything is honorable and moral about the very war itself; with that being said. how can you not be offended by that? yes I understand these guys volunteered but our leader ask them to go to foreign soil and KILL! I could understand if they urinated on them first, but it was done postmortem. Im still not condoning it but im saying that it sounds and smells like a witch hunt to me. As far as honor and war go the only war I think is honorable to fight is one defensive on our own soil. basically we are over their searching for terrorist training camps and those involved, and when found we are killing them; correct me if im wrong? is there any difference in that and searching for a group of thugs training to rob our houses and killing them before they attempt to do so. Our laws tell us here that we must face imminent threat before the use of deadly force, or we are guilty of murder.i dont see what goen on, on foreign soil as an imminent threat. so what im saying is dont be offended at what goes on, on the battlefield; be offended at war itself. this has become a monkey see monkey do world, and our leaders sent those men there. I can only pray that one day their minds will be at peace after having to kill. obviously their actions show the effects on them mentally. so if I offended anyone sorry; but I went to military school as a boy and was taught at a young age that when you place rules on war; you loose wars, and that war itself is the worst thing on earth.

It's a war... In vietnam they cut the ears off of dead soldiers. Slap them on the wrist and move on

Some of our wimpy American population cry tears for the savage murderous Taliban ,but when Marines pee on a dead murdering Taliban, Funny they are silent when they mutilate our captured boys. These people are completely different than the Russians or even the Chinese. How does one deal with people who strap bombs on their children? Or kill school girls because they want an education? Or call for the annihilation of those who do not convert to their cult of death? I think I got to pee

We have trained our leaders well. They are to lead by example. They go into harms way, protecting the rights of you who do nothing but find fault. You have no idea what it is to live the life of a soldier, sailor, marine or airman. Go back to your secure life and enjoy the freedom these people provide.

They are allowed to blow their heads off, but can not relieve some stress. Semper Fi Marines. You do what others will not do, protect our country. If this is all you people have to complain about, get a life.

Most people don't really want to know what it takes to be a Marine sniper or a Seal sniper. The best of the best. Try sitting or laying in one postion for days with no movement, even urinating on yourself. All just to make one shot. The one shot only a few dozen people on earth could make. And what for, so we at home can have a safe nights sleep. What they did is sending a message to the enemy, it been done for years. The gutless fool which posted this video best look over this shoulder the rest of his life until it ends suddenly. Semper Fi to all USA sniper teams!!!!!

I like what you say but no need to lie about only a few dozen on earth could make these shots.I personally know 5 right here in the county I live including myself that can make these shots easily and never been in the military.2 inch 5 shot groups at 700 yards is nothing for us.Other than that DITTOS to your comment and to these profectionest sharpshooters.

There are many people who can make shots like that. But....under what conditions? How long have you had to lay in the dirt, mud, rain, snow or whatever for as many as two or three days. You can imagine how I smell by this point. Then the oportunity comes and I get one shot at my mission. You do not do this. You go out, get ready, shoot and then go home.

We understand you do a job.. Guess what, we all do things everyday that require specialized skills and patience. Stop patting yourself on the back and deal with the fact that the armed services are in trouble because of bone head actions such as this. Own it...

Good comment and so true. Who cares about the bodies of the low life Muslims that kill our soldiers. Each one should be buried with a pig in his grave.
