OBAMA: Troops Out Of Iraq By Year's End

President Barack Obama on Friday declared an end to the Iraq war, one of the longest and most divisive conflicts in U.S. history, announcing that all U.S. troops would be withdrawn from the country by year's end.

"After nearly nine years," the president, "America's war in Iraq will be over."

He spoke at the White House after a private video conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, and he offered assurances that the two leaders agreed on the decision.

The American withdrawal by the end of 2011 was sealed in a deal between the two countries when George W. Bush was president. Obama declared the end of the combat mission earlier this year.

We have crackpots everywhere. The way you folks handle politics is downright shameful. Everyone has a comeback regardless of what side you are on. The fact is that both parties have lost their way to special interests. While you sit and type your criticisms of one party or another, you fail to realize that both parties are screwing us. The democrats spend way too much, and the republicans are so concerned about the election, they do nothing. Bah...... says the blind sheep.

Just to let you know that this was the time line of GWB to pull out NOT Mr. Obama. Ask the Kurds about weapons of mass destruction. Oh yes and the hundreds of thousands of women and children killed by Sadam.

Google WMD'S please....you can deny it all you want but they had them as UN inspectors said. You really believe the weren't? Of course most were gone somewhere so they can be used against us in the future. Syria?...you have all the answers based on the spin of the time....guess you don't have kids.

What would my kids have to do with my opinion of the conflict in Iraq...which I have 2, I really could care less if it was GWB or Obama who set the timeline, I want our money to stop being wasted overthere and our troops home. We need to stop being the world police and address more issues at home.

He is pulling them out only because he could not get an arrangement where soldiers were immune to Iraqi prosecution. With this many soldiers returning home many will be put out of the service and the unemployment numbers will increase.

We certainly are! We will support him by pulling him up by his pants and giving him a kick start OUT on his fanny. He should have never be in there to begin with.

I disagreed with Bush policy, and I disagree with Obama policy, but I would never speak about the president of the US this way. I support your right to speak with immaturity and vile metaphor, but I would never disrespect the office of the president- no matter who it is.

If you take those bliders off, your horse may race a little faster than last place...like Obama. Sorry, he is gone already. And you based your comment on...a.....what? The fact that a failure in his first term would do better in his second...keep smelling that car exhaust.

  • by tybo Location: ENC on Oct 22, 2011 at 05:30 AM
the sole reason the so called Leader of our country did this . is because he's afraid he won't get re elected. he cares none for our troops and doesn't even have pride in America or care what America was founded on . good ridance to him in 2012.

They may be coming back from Iraq but then they will be going to Afghanistan!!! My Son has completed one tour in Iraq and he is now in Afghanistan on his 2nd Tour there. So what is the difference here?? From one Battlefield to the other! And yes, my Son knew what he signed up for when he put his Name on the dotted line and so did we. 3 Sons in the Army and my Husband is a Retired Vet. So when is all of this really going to stop?? Never!!!

You are so right. My nephew is also in the Army and he is going to be deployed to Afganistan for his 2nd tour soon. My dad was in a war, my brother-in-law was and now my nephew is. That's three generations...and the wars go on. Your assessment on when wars (and our involvment) will stop is dead on. NEVER.

Maybe Obama finally realized what a sink hole the Middle East is for the US (both economically and militarily). Between the banks, Wall Street and the MIddle East, the Middle Class has been almost entirely decimated. The poor GI's that will come home after all this will end up unemployed like the rest of us. They'll also come home to find out their Veteran benefits have been cut. What a home coming, eh?
