Navy Fires At Civilian Boat, Commander Loses Job

A Navy commanding officer is out of work after the Navy says a civilian was fired at during gunnery exercises.

The Navy says Commander Mark Olson was relieved of his duty following the August incident at the Cherry Point firing range. The Morehead City-based Zig-Zag was engaged by the USS The Sullivans. The ship fired inert, or non-explosive rounds at the boat. According to report, no one was injured during the firing.

The owner of the Zig-Zag, Jimme Eady, told the Carteret News-Times the boat was not in a restricted area.
