One of the six American soldiers killed Tuesday in Afghanistan went to high school in Johnston County at South Johnston High School.
The Department of Defense has not released the names of the victims, but Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby told WNCN that Chris Bohler was one of the soldiers who died.
Bohler's mother works for the district attorney.
Bohler graduated from South Johnston High in 2003.
The crash was the single deadliest incident for U.S. forces in Afghanistan in more than a year. It's unclear whether it was caused by a mechanical failure or enemy fire.
Willoughby said Chris was the oldest of three children.
