A NATO helicopter has crashed in east Afghanistan, an Afghan government official said Saturday.
Provincial spokesman Shahidullah Shahid says coalition and Afghan officials were investigating the crash site in Sayd Abad district of Wardak province.
NATO said it was investigating a helicopter incident in the area, but has not confirmed a crash or released details.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed it was a U.S. military helicopter.
He said in a written statement Saturday that NATO attacked a house in Sayd Abad where insurgent fighters were gathering Friday night.
Mujahid said the Taliban fired on and downed the helicopter, killing the crew. He said eight insurgents also died.
