A Marine is dead after he crashed his pickup truck into a Morehead City business early Sunday morning.

The victim has been identified as Richard Smith, who is stationed at Camp Lejeune.

According to Morehead City police it happened around 1 a.m. Sunday morning. They say a 23-year-old Marine was traveling west on Highway 70, also known as Arendell Street, when he approached a curve and did not turn with the curve. Police say Smith then went straight into Parkway TV.

Police say Smith was not wearing a seat-belt and they believe alcohol and speed were a factor in the crash.

The building was made of cinder block and police say it was heavily damaged.
