Marine Charged After Moped Driver Killed
A New River Air Station Marine has been charged after a deadly crash involving a moped this Memorial Day weekend.
Killed in the Sunday night accident was the driver of the moped, Dean Jordan of Jacksonville.
The accident happened on Highway 17 south of Jacksonville near Cash Pools around 10:30 p.m.
The Highway Patrol says 30-year-old Hipolito Ortiz, Jr. was southbound and hit the moped from behind, pushing it forward and the moped rolled on its side. Ortiz was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed.
Troopers say alcohol was not involved in the accident.
