Marine Killed In Motorcycle Crash

The Highway Patrol says a 24-year-old Camp Lejeune Marine died after crashing his motorcycle Wednesday night.

The name of the Marine has not been released yet, pending notification of family members.

First Sgt. David Oglesby says the crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on Ramsey Road near Drummer Kellum Road on the northeast side of Jacksonville.

The motorcyclist was heading east on Ramsey Rd., First Sgt. Oglesby said, going about 75 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. The Marine ran off the road to the right, hit a ditch and a driveway culvert, sending him and his motorcycle airborne.

The Marine was pronounced dead at Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville.

First Sgt. Oglesby says the crash is under investigation, and they're waiting for toxicology results. Oglesby says the Marine was wearing his helmet.
