A Marine from Cherry Point is accused of shooting into a crowd of people in the parking lot of a mud bog in Newport.

Timothy Telford is charged with four counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, two counts of assault by pointing a gun, and one count of going armed to the terror of the public.

Carteret County deputies say in happened around 11:00 p.m. Saturday at the Little Doo Mud Bog. Witnesses told deputies that Telford was cutting donuts in the parking lot and was confronted by people in an effort to stop his erratic driving. They say Telford is accused of hitting one of the men with his truck and then pulling out a .40 caliber handgun and firing three shots into the crowd.

No one was hit by the gunfire and deputies say Telford took off. They later arrested the Marine and found the gun hidden in nearby woods.

The 19-year-old Telford is being held on a $50,000 bond.
