For the average person, Memorial Day could mean picnics or a beach trip, or just a day off from work. Sometimes people forget the sacrifice members of our armed forces have made and continue to make, but attend just one ceremony like one in Greenville Monday, and you'll experience first hand what Memorial Day is really about.
The keynote speaker was Master Sergeant Jarvis Everett, who told stories of his own experiences and those of others.
"Telling us about how their ships were bombed, and when they got time they cut compartments open and found sailors in there with their hands up, dead," said Everett.
The ceremony wasn't the only place for paying respects Monday.
On Baywood Lane they have a Memorial Day tradition of their own. They set up flags along both sides of the street, and each flag holds a picture of a fallen member of the armed forces.
Ileana Gouras lives on Baywood Lane. She's a military wife, and mother.
"I feel very honored to have my children serve their country as well as my husband," said Gouras.
A neighbor says flags on Baywood Lane were set up yesterday by a few kids who live in the neighborhood. If you want to see those flags and photo tributes- just go south on Landmark Street off of Greenville Boulevard and turn right on Baywood Lane.
