Greenville VA Center Cuts Down On Long Commutes For Local Veterans

With the clip of the scissors, the new Greenville V.A. Health Clinic is officially open for business.

WITN spoke with Clinic Administrator Tom Delaney at its grand opening Monday.

Delaney said, "It's a great day for us. We still have along way to go. The people of ENC are just going to get a real-world, first-class facility."

Delaney says their mission is excellent service. It's earned by veterans and will be delivered at the new clinic.

It's something Claude Randolph Jr. has been waiting for. He lives in Kinston and drives to Durham for medical care at least twice a year.

Randolph said, "I don't like to make that long drive. My wife doesn't have to make that long drive."

Donald Jones of Lenoir County feels the same way. He needs medical services at least once a month.

Jones said, "You might as well figure an all day trip, to go to Durham and by the time you get out."

Now, whether they need physical therapy, radiology procedures, ultrasounds or even minor medical procedures, it can be performed in Greenville

The new facility will serve about 120,000 veterans and will provide a total of 300 jobs to health professionals in the east.

The 116,000 square foot facility along Moye Boulevard will replace an older facility that relocated in early January.

Officials said the new VA center will be able to provide outpatient care like radiology, orthopedics, women's healthcare, and dental services.
