A former Camp Lejeune Marine will serve 10 years in federal prison after admitting he tried to meet a 12-year-old girl for sex.
Shawn Dixon was sentenced yesterday in Raleigh. In March the 21-year-old pleaded guilty to attempting to entice a child to engage in illegal sexual conduct.
The feds say in December 2009 Dixon met the 12-year-old in an online chat room and say the relationship progressed with sexually explicit conversations and acts via live online video. In April 2010 a meeting was arranged, but a family member discovered the plans and notified authorities.
Dixon will have a register as a sex offender and a lifetime of supervised release after serving his prison sentence.
