FEDS: Marine Flight Line Mechanic Threatens To Blow Up US Airways Plane

An Eastern Carolina Marine is in trouble with the feds after they say he made bomb threats on a U.S. Airways flight on Memorial Day. That Marine is a flight line mechanic.

Cpl. Ivan Bugakov is charged with false information and threats involving aircraft. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Tucson says Bugakov was on a flight scheduled to leave Tucson when he became loud, unruly and belligerent. The plane taxied back to the gate so the 24-year-old could be removed. While leaving, the feds say the Marine told the flight crew and fellow passengers that there was a bomb onboard.

Bugakov, according to a news release, told airport police that he had a bomb in his carry-on luggage. Passengers were removed from the plane and re-screened while bomb detection dogs were brought to search for explosives. None was found.

Camp Lejeune says Bugakov is assigned to HMLA 167 at New River and is a flight line mechanic.

If convicted, the Marine faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
