About 120 Marines returned to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in Havelock Wednesday morning.

The Marines from VMAQ-1, a 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing squadron, reunited with family and friends around 10 a.m. after a seven-month deployment to Afghanistan.

According to the base, VMAQ-1 is one of four Prowler squadrons in the Marine Corps; they are all stationed at Cherry Point. "Prowlers are a strategic asset tasked to operate anywhere the NATO International Security Assistance Force dictates," the Marine Corps says.

The four Prowler squadrons constantly rotate with one another in Afghanistan. VMAQ-2 departed on March 26 to replace the returning VMAQ-1.
