August Is Deadliest Month For US In Afghanistan

Sixty-six U.S. troops have died in Afghanistan so far this month, making August the deadliest month for American forces in the nearly decade-long war.

Nearly half the troops killed so far this month died on Aug. 6 when the Taliban shot down a Chinook helicopter in eastern Afghanistan. That was the single deadliest event of the war and sent the monthly total soaring, according to a tally by The Associated Press.

The deadliest month for American forces until now was July 2010 when 65 were killed.

President Barack Obama announced last month that he would begin pulling out the 33,000 extra troops he dispatched to the war.

He ordered 10,000 out this year and another 23,000 withdrawn by the summer of 2012.

President Obama stated "Fewer of our sons and daughters are serving in harm’s way, We have ended our combat mission in Iraq, with 100,000 American troops already out of that country. And even as there will be dark days ahead in Afghanistan, the light of a secure peace can be seen in the distance. These long wars will come to a responsible end."

IS this? or It might be a just me moment* It seems every other month WITN runs a headline that "that" That one mentioned month; has been the"deadliest for our for our forces in Afghanastan? I think so! Didn't President Obama run on a campaign promise to bring the guys home from the wars? I thought so. I dislike a person who promises one thing to gain popularity and then does differantly! DO NOT "promise" me the RED camaro and then try to deliver the Blue one. Thank you!

Obama promised alot of things, remember that "Hope and Change"? Not one thing that he promised has he come through with. He will be a one term president and I think there will be dancing in the streets when he packs his bags and leaves Washington, DC!!

President Barack Obama laid out the beginning of the U.S. drawdown in Afghanistan, assuring the nation that 33,000 U.S. troops will be pulled out by the autumn of 2012. Five thousand troops will be pulled out immediately, with another 5,000 leaving at the end of 2011.
