A dozen fighter jets and the pilots and weapons officers who operate them are returning to their base.

The 12 F-15E Strike Eagle jets are scheduled land Friday afternoon at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro. The airmen and jets from the 335th Fighter Squadron were deployed for about six months to Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.

The deployment represented half the squadron's 24 jets. Six other jets returned home in December.

The 335th Fighter Squadron is one of six similar units in the Air Force.

Another 300 airmen from various Seymour Johnson units are expected to return next week.
