NC Attorney General Pledges To Resist OLF

North Carolina's Justice Department has promised its support in resisting the U.S. Navy's quest to build a landing field in the northeastern part of the state.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Tuesday that the state Attorney General's office promised its help to U.S. Rep. Walter Jones.

The Republican congressman is helping local efforts to fight the Navy, which is scouting sites in Camden and Gates counties for a practice landing field for pilots from Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach.

The Attorney General's Office says it's prepared to enforce laws letting the state retain some jurisdiction over land seized for the landing field. That would allow the counties to enforce noise ordinances.

Let me get this straight-- to you the men who died at valley Forge, Gettysburg, Bellou Woods, the beaches of Normandy, Iwo Jima, in the air over Berlin, at the Chosin Resivoir, my buddies who died or like me were wounded at Khe Sanh, our soliders fighting the horrible terrorist in Kabul and Bagdad, all so that you may enjoy the Freedom of this country are all "IDIOTS". Did you ever man-up and serve, or are you just soooooo educated you are in a position to make this gross and ignornant generalization. I feel so sorry for you-- And you are right I don't expect an aplolgy, people like you don't even count. Have another bitter day.

To: REALITY CHECK. I dare you call everyone in our Armed Services "idiots". You live in a FREE country that allows you to make these kinds of ignornant statements because of the dedication, bravery, honor, and sense of duty of the brave men and women in our Armed Services. Many of these people are very well educated, dotorates, masters, and bachelors degree's and most all of them are the best and brightest our country has to offer. It is absolutely incredible that someone can call these amazing men and women "idiots". Perhaps you should move to another country where you won't be putting your life in the hands of "idiots". You owe everyone in the military a huge apology.

I agree 110 percent with the OLF coming to eastern NC...but...let it come with ALL the benefits. It may not create millions of jobs...but...even one job is a huge benefit to someone who doesn't havt a job. The ideal place to put it would be just off 264 east of Engelhard. Take Hyde county airport, only a few rich people benefit from it anyway, modify it as the Navy needs, jets could come in off the water, do their TOA, turn N then E and never need to overfly any residents. When they need to practice bomb, just head N to AirForce or Navy range. No one living in that area, so no one would need to move. THIS IS THE MOST SENSIBLE SITE TO PUT THE OLF.

The next time we need these pilots to save the lives of the people that are against the olf we will catch some seagulls and someother coastal birds and put bombs on their backs and send them to irag to save your loved ones.

Ah, Cactus, if you only knew the truth. You have been fooled for so long. And, Obama Snake Oil, I can opine due to something called Freedom Of Speech, which has been protected by such brave folks as the ACLU, not your jackbooted thug "heroes".

This ole boy is rather wrapped in the flag, living with in 6 miles (or so) of SJ Air Base I love to see those men (women) in their flying machines. "The sound of freedom", God bless the USA and Her military (my heros).

Reality Check, you need to seek help really bad. The reason you are able to even opine is due to the bravery of soldiers, our kids, nephews, daughters and fathers that kept you safe and gave you the right to opine.

Bob has it right. There is little economic benefit for an area with the olf. The money flows to the area that the jets are based, which in this case is Virginia Beach, VA. The Navy just wants to use NC as practice grounds for them to fly over because the people in VA don't like the noise and they've overbuilt around the jet base.

WHY are we resisting. This is one of the poorest parts of the entire nation, and we don't want any economic benefits. It is not going to ruin the environment. What's ruining Eastern NC us is NO MONEY, NO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. If all the counties east of I-95 were a state, it would be the poorest state in the nation......poorer in per capita income than Mississippi. Makes no sense to fight it, unless you have something personal to gain by it--- someone must have--and they are forgetting thier poor neighbors who need opportunities.
