Marines Banned From Social Networking Sites On USMC Servers

The Marine Corps is banning its troops from logging on to social networking sites such as facebook, myspace and twitter, on its networks citing a possible security risk.

A review was ordered last week by the Pentagon to weigh the benefits against the possible security risks. Military officials said the internet has been used as a haven for malicious behavior, and said that using social sites can expose information to adversaries.

But many Marine wives say these websites make it easier to stay in touch with their husbands while they are deployed.

The order doesn't effect Marines private use of social sites on personal computers outside of their jobs.
