Safety officials from the Marine Corps are hosting a public meeting about its efforts to find explosives that may have landed on beaches and marshes at an eastern North Carolina base.
The Marine Corps said it will have the session Tuesday night at Hammocks Beach State Park Visitor Center in Swansboro.
Camp Lejeune officials are investigating water, marshes and land adjacent to the coastal facility's southeast boundary where munitions may have landed. The area includes the western end of Bear Island in the state park.
Officials said there haven't been any reports of munitions being found but they are conducting the probe to ensure the safety of humans and the environment.
