Purple Heart Medals For Marines

Marines who recently returned from Afghanistan with combat wounds are getting Purple Heart medals at their North Carolina base.

Officials say Marines from 3rd Battalion, Eighth Marine Regiment are being honored with a medal ceremony Monday at Camp Lejeune.

Members of the unit returned to their base June 4. The battalion deployed to Afghanistan in November and was the only Marine infantry unit in the country at the time. A task force of 8,000 Marines has now deployed to Afghanistan as part of a troop surge.

The Purple Heart is one of the oldest medals in the military.

Anonymous, I don't blame you for not responding. If I were shown to be totally wrong, I'd keep quiet too.

Anonymous: I've spewed no rhetoric. I've only spoken the truth. I must admit, Fonda was courageous. Betraying your nation by giving aid and comfort to the enemy takes a lot of courage...more like unmitigated gall, actually. I raise the point again: I wonder where we'd be if we'd had people such as her [ and you ] helping the Nazis and the Japanese in WWII.

C, before you mention the word "traitor" when talking about courageous people like Jane Fonda, consider the real traitors such as Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Gonzales. This is unless you liked eight years of a quasi-police state. But, as long as you can spew you "God, guns, guts, and glory" rhetoric, it's OK.

Very true, soldierhater. Except that I'm right and you're wrong.

You have your opinion, C, and I have mine.

To soldierhater: The thing about your "heroes" is that none of them are worthy to carry a Marine's boots for him. Hayden: Another whiner who'd rather preach surrender than fighting. Hoffman: A glorified drug addict. Fonda: Should have been imprisoned for treason. Sheehan: Just another anti-war Bush-hater. As far as fascism goes, it is our military that has fought and defeated true fascists. If we'd had people like you around during WWII, we'd all be speaking German now. Oh, and you're correct: You DO have the right to your opinion. It's because of our military that you have that right. If our men and women in uniform are your idea of fascists, fine. I'll take "fascists" over sniveling, pacifist ingrates any day of the week.

And my "blatant disregard" for the military, which I loathe, will continue.

Well, C, I have the right to voice my opinion just like you. It's those of you who want push the flag in everyone's face that are the ugly ones. You and your judeo-christian facism. I'll thank my heroes- Tom Hayden, Abbie Hoffman, Jane Fonda, Cindy Sheehan, and many others.

To soldierhater: I just love how you anti-American types use the very freedoms our military won for us to put them down. News flash: If not for guys like these Marines, we would not have a free press, a constitution, or individual rights. If our country really repulses you that much, you're free to move to Moscow anytime you wish. I don't know which is uglier: Your lack of understanding of what freedom really costs, or your blatant ingratitude to those who gave it to you.

That's right, Cactus. Too much risk in exposing the truth for what you flag waving, soldier worshipping hypocrites really are. We are here to stay and will contiure to voice our opinions.
