Fort Bragg Soldiers Killed

Military officials report that three North Carolina-based soldiers have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced Sunday that 38-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Brent S. Cole of Reedsville, W. Va., died May 22 when his helicopter went down in Tarin Kwot, Afghanistan.

Cole was assigned to 1st Battalion, 82ND Combat Aviation Brigade, 82ND Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.

Officials also said 38-year-old Maj. Jason E. George of Tehachapi, Calif., and 28-year-old 1st Lt. Leevi K. Barnard of Mount Airy died May 21 of wounds suffered when their unit was attacked by enemy forces while on dismounted patrol near Baghdad, Iraq.

George, an Army Reservist, and Barnard, a National Guardsman,
were both assigned to the 252ND Combined Arms Battalion in
Fayetteville.

Authorities say both incidents are under investigation.
