ISLAMABAD -- A Pakistani official says a recent military offensive against the Taliban has killed more than 1,000 suspected militants.
It was not possible to independently verify Interior Minister Rehman Malik's statement Sunday.
The areas covered by the operation, including the northwest's Swat Valley, are too dangerous for journalists to freely roam.
The military also does not specify how it differentiates civilian from militant killings.
The operation dates back to last month but began in full force in Swat in early May.
