A Camp Lejeune Marine has been killed in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense announced Thursday the death of 22 year old Lance Cpl. Blaise Oleski of Holland Patent, N.Y.
He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune.
No word yet on the cause of death.
Camp Lejeune says Oleski joined the Marines on May 16, 2006, and was trained as an infantryman. His decorations include Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
For the third time since a Pentagon policy shift the media will be allowed to cover Oleski’s return to Dover Air Force Base. His family gave the media permission as well.
His body is scheduled to arrive at the Delaware base Thursday evening.
The Pentagon's 18-year ban on media covering the return of fallen U.S. service members to the Dover mortuary ended Sunday with the return of an Air Force staff sergeant killed in Afghanistan. The new Pentagon policy gives families of deceased troops the right to decide on media coverage.
