"Vets Rights Are Being Violated" Says Senator

By: Christine Kennedy

Veterans second amendment rights to bear arms are being violated, according to Senator Richard Burr.

He and 14 other lawmakers have introduced legislation to change that.

Currently, when a Veteran seeks help from the Department of Veterans Affairs, the VA may determine they're unable to manage their own financial affairs and appoint a fiduciary.

When that happens, they are deemed as mentally defective and may be prohibited from purchasing a firearm.

The legislation Burr and others introduced would end that practice.

Keith, I agree with you. The vets need to be able to purchase their firearms and you should be prevented from doing so, because you are as nutty as a fruitcake.

The bottom line...If you go to war to protect your country, you loose all rights to protect yourself (when you come back HOME). Vets will be easy prey for criminals...How Sweet...

This is why there is concern about your chosen one. •Obama voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sports shooting. (United States Senate, vote no. 217, S. 397, July 29, 2005) •Obama voted to uphold local gun bans and the criminal prosecution of people who use firearms in self-defense. (Illinois Senate, SB 2165, vote 20, March 25, 2004) •In his only two votes on confirming Supreme Court nominees, Obama voted against two of the five justices (Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito) who later affirmed an individual right to keep and bear arms in the case of District of Columbia v. Heller.

Ron and Mary-what does Obama have to do with this story? It was BUSH who signed the so-called Veterans Disarmament Act into law.

This rule was in place before President Obama.... before I repeat. But you know, if someone can't handle managing their money because they are unstable or not cognitively aware enough, why not give them an assault weapon. I'm sure they are responsible. There is nothing wrong with people owning guns, as long as they have not been proven to be unable to handle the responsibility. We violate felons rights to own fireamrs ... I think that one is pretty good. Note that I put the emphasis on gun rights being taken away only after it has been shown they should not have them, not before.

This has little to do with mental incompetence. It's military red tape. Sen. Burr is doing a good job trying to protect the rights of our military who are fighting for our right to remain free. Anonymous: next time an armed person breaks in your home, fight them off with a banana and see how that works for you. Anyone who wants to negotiate with the Taliban and then take away our constitutional right to bare arms is questionable. 2012 is coming. Change you can believe in.

Obama intends to take all our guns away. History shows that taking away citizens' guns removes their ability to fight a totalitarian government. Obama wants government control of every portion of American Life. Without our guns, we are helpless and unable to fight for our freedom. Anyone who scoffs at these facts is extremely naive. We are heading for disaster, and the sheep are allowing it to happen.

President Obama is the most Anti- Gun President in American History. I hope you do not get a Home Invasion with someone with a hand gun, because only the bad people will have guns.

The legislation Burr and others introduced will be shot down. We don't need crazy people purchasing firearm.

This has nothing to do with that precious Second Amendment. If a veteran is deemed to be mentally unsound, the last thing they need is a firearm. Burr is just another neocon who wraps himself in the flag.
