A source tells WITN News preparations are evident President Barack Obama will visit Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base in Jacksonville Friday.
There has been no word from the White House. A Camp Lejeune spokesman said he could neither confirm nor deny the president was planning to visit the base on Friday.
Other media outlets are publishing similar reports.
The Associated Press, the Atlantic Magazine and International Herald Tribune are reporting President Obama could be in North Carolina Friday and may announce news of troop withdrawal from Iraq. The magazine reports Obama will visit Lejeune, while the Tribune reports Obama will possibly visit Lejeune or Fort Bragg in Fayetteville.
It was announced Tuesday the president wants to remove all combat troops from Iraq by August 2010.
As WITN first reported, it was recently announced thousands of Marines from Camp Lejeune will be deploying for Afghanistan.
