Congressman Jones Reacts To More Troops Headed To Afghanistan

Congressman Walter Jones says it's never an easy decision to send our brave men and women overseas to fight for our freedom -- but realizes President Obama has a plan.

Congressman Jones was reacting Tuesday night to the Defense Department announcement that 17,000 troops will deploy to Afghanistan including 8,000 Marines from Camp Lejeune

Jones says, "Our men and women in uniform have given so much--three, four, and five trips to Afghanistan and Iraq. And I hope that the President, if he's going to make this commitment and continue to enlarge the number of forces going into Afghanistan--I hope he gets some help from NATO.

They just need to go ahead and wipe out the population of Iraq and Afghanistan. This will stop the war and the tragedies, make a much better economy, cause a lot less heartache, and will probably give the United States some more territory to have more infrastructure and military stations. That can create an OLF over there. The United States needs a lot more commercialization and a lot less babies being made, that will keep this country from going down the drain.

Barlow, while I respect your opinion, it seems many have forgotten the damage Bin Laden did to this country. To find Bin Laden in the same way as Saddam was would be demoralizing to the enemy. I spent 15 months in Camp Ramadi (Anbar Prov.)and I could have cared less about the greatest military in the world occuping their country. We did more for these people than you could ever imagine. Unless you were there, you will never know. Finding Bin Laden, and bringing him to justice is a WIN in my opinion. Our GI's know firsthand the dangers of the military, and they certainly know the consequences of what can happen. I have seen it firsthand, yet I still believe what we are doing is right. We are the worlds police force, and if we do not use it, we will loose it. Other nations should fear us. If they screw with our great nation, then the jolly green giant will react. In closing, I firmly believe Bin Laden will be hunted down, and that in itself is a win, win situation. Take care.

Do you suppose he thought of that statement all by himself - or maybe one of his staffers developed it for him???

He is right about the NATO thing. If the US is going to insist on policing the planet, we at least should get some help. In any event, we are not going to WIN anything but more dead kids and a country that hates us for our occupation. If the Afghan govt. can't "govern" then it needs to go.
