Camp Lejeune is warning fishermen and mariners to avoid Brown's Island and expect louder than normal explosions.
The base's Range Development Division will detonate 37 unexploded bombs at noon Thursday. More than 20 of the bombs weigh 100 pounds and one of them weighs 750 pounds. The explosions are expected to rattle windows and create a large plume of smoke.
Brown's Island is a range for machine guns, rockets, mortars, field artillery and Naval boat-to-shore fire. Base officials said it remains off-limits due to the unexploded bombs. Trespassers will be ticketed and fined.
