More fighter jet squadrons could be landing at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in Havelock.
The Navy announced the plans in the Federal Register Thursday. The Navy lists five possible scenarios, one giving Cherry Point as many as 11 squadrons of fighter jets, while two others would be based at the station in Beaufort, South Carolina. Under the proposals, Cherry Point would receive no less than two new squadrons. New squadrons could mean news jobs in Havelock.
The Navy is holding several public comment periods on bringing the new squadrons to Cherry Point next month and plans to conduct an environmental impact study.
