6th Marine Regiment Is Off To Fight In Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Here's the release given to WITN by the military:

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - The headquarters of the 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, will begin deploying January 5 as part of a scheduled rotation in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Once in Iraq this unit will make up the headquarters of Regimental Combat Team-6, Multi National Force - West, which will support Iraqi civil and military authorities.

This will be the regiment's second deployment as a headquarters unit in support of OIF and will be their third in the Global War on Terrorism. The first tour included a six-month deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to Afghanistan in 2004.

The regiment is commanded by Col. Matthew A. Lopez and will be headquartered at Camp Ramadi in Al Anbar province.
