A North Carolina National Guard soldier was among 23 guard members across the country selected to attend the Army All-American Bowl.
The game matches East and West teams of high-school players in San Antonio, Texas, Saturday.
Chief Warrant Officer 4 James Herring, of Roanoke Rapids, will represent North Carolina, according to the National Guard. Herring belongs to the 60th Troop Command in Roanoke Rapids and was only member of the guard selected from the state.
Soldiers selected for the trip are veterans of Iraq or Afghanistan.
