Mobilization ceremonies are scheduled for four North Carolina National Guard companies that will deploy to Iraq in 2009 as part of a 4,000-member brigade.
The National Guard said three ceremonies are scheduled Saturday for the companies in the 230th Brigade Support Battalion in Four Oaks, Erwin and Goldsboro. The units are part of the 30th Heavy Brigade Combat Team, which will begin deploying in April.
The brigade first deployed to Iraq in 2003 and returned home in early 2005. The soldiers participated in combat patrols on the Iranian border. Five soldiers were killed and about 120 were wounded in combat.
