Words were exchanged and then gunfire erupted on Highway 70 outside of La Grange around noon today.
Lenoir County deputies say they're looking for Johnathon Garner as a person of interest in the shooting of Gregory Wooten.
Deputies say Wooten was a front seat passenger in a car headed east on Highway 70. They say a red Mazda III with a rear spoiler pulled up alongside and Wooten and the driver of the Mazda car exchanged words. Then someone in the Mazda fired several shots into the car Wooten was in. His car pulled into the Bojangles parking lot and the Mazda kept going.
Wooten, who left the area before deputies arrived, is believed to have only suffered a superficial gunshot wound.
Garner, who is 21-years-old, has a tattoo of a tear under his left eye, shoulder length dred locks, is 5'9" tall and weighs 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black ball cap with a red bill.
