Woman Admits To Robbing Elderly Greenville Attorney

A woman will spend at least the next seven years in state prison for robbing an elderly Greenville lawyer last summer.

Tuesday morning Doris Edwards pleaded guilty to robbery with a dangerous weapon and was sentenced to serve between seven and nine years in prison.

She admitted to robbing William Wooten at knife point at his law office across the street from the Pitt County Courthouse. Edwards was originally charged with assault, armed robbery and kidnapping of the 76-year-old lawyer. Wooten told WITN News at the time that the woman tied him up with his tie in a backroom of his office.

Edwards was arrested after police released surveillance video from a local department store where Wooten's stolen credit card was used.

TO Tasha: No its not alright that white women steal anymore than its right for black women to steal, however this woman used a knife to rob an elderly man she got what she deserved. If the criminal that did this was white, brown, pink or purple I would say the same thing. Please do not give a CRIMINAL any outs. I struggle to pay bills and support elderly parents but that doesnt give me the right to steal. Crime should be color blind, quit blaming everyone beacuse a black woman did this hold her responsible.

Its not to harsh. She tied up and threatened a old man with a knife. It doesnt matter how much money it was, she stole. For all those who think it is to harsh. If someone broke in your home, threatened you with a knife, tied you up and stole from you I bet you would be saying 7 yrs was not enough. Also to those who want to play the race card, get a grip! The news, the paper and the police department cant help if the majority of those whom are getting arrested are African-American. Its so irratating to always her "its bc im black" who cares.

What a shame that someone has to play the race card every single time a pic of a black person being caught comitting a crime is shown. What about the pics shown last week of the woman that embezzeled from the doctor she worked for.She was white. Or Zahra Baker's so called stepmom? And then of course, the white student who shot & killed his own father? Of course that created a stink cause he originally said it was a black man that did it.Had the student been black & accused a white person of the crime, would that have caused a stink?Let's not forget the 2 white men accused of sex offenses in Wayne county over the last couple of weeks. BTW in case u haven't figured it out, a 10 yr old is a minor so it is illegal for his name or pic to be shown. But why drag a 10 yr old into a racist spew is beyond me.If everyone lived in the way that God wants us to live there would be none of this crap. Take control of your own life & stop blaming everyone not of your color for your own shortfalls or failur.

Yes, this woman seriously committed a crime, however 7 years in prison seems a little harsh. Many people that are repeat offenders just get a slap on the wrist. Please dont jump all over me, but I really think 7 yrs in prison is too much.
