A pre-Christmas snowfall is likely for the North Carolina mountains.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for portions of northwestern North Carolina. Forecasters say the region can expect up to five inches of snow with heavy accumulations possible near the Blue Ridge Parkway. The snow is expected to begin late Saturday afternoon.
Weather service meteorologist Brandon Vincent says a fast-moving low pressure system will rush through the state and bring a chance of light precipitation in central counties. He said there could be a rain-snow mix, although that would depend on the track the system takes.
