Winter Weather Advisory

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for several counties in the viewing area. The advisory includes Wayne, Wilson, Nash, Edgecombe, Halifax, Lenoir, Craven, Beaufort, Pitt, Greene, Martin, Washington, Hyde, Tyrrell, and Dare counties.

Snow is developing across northwestern North Carolina and southwestern Virginia. The snow is moving east-southeast and should reach the North Carolina coastal plain by late afternoon, Some rain may mix with the snow at onset then shift into mainly snow during the early evening. Up to one inch with locally heavier amounts are possible on grassy surfaces. Temperatures will fall to near freezing by early evening with some bridges and overpasses becoming icy.

Stay tuned to WITN and for the latest weather updates.

For those of you who laugh at us ENC folk for going out to get our Milk and Bread when there is a possibility of snow, maybe you need to understand our reasoning before picking on us! #1- you have to have the milk in case there is enough accumulation to make “snow cream” #2- Our power lines are designed to withstand hurricane force winds, but not 2 inches of ice buildup, hence the bread for the sandwiches we will be eating when we do not have power to cook. And finally #3- We don’t even pretend we know how to drive in snow, so we go get the staples ahead of time…it’s called being prepared! Fortunately we only have to drive in snow on a rare occasion (gotta love ENC weather). We don’t buy snow tires and our DMV is on a tight budget so, most roads only get a little sand/salt mixture. We know to stay home and keep off the roads, we also don’t mind if everything closes because we care about the people who have to get to those jobs. I hope this clears it up for you!
