High Winds Causing Problems For Cherry Branch Ferry

High winds are causing problems for some of the state's ferries.

The Cherry Branch-Minnesott Beach route is having problems due to low water in the Neuse River. Westerly 40 mile per hour winds are pushing the water out into the sound.

Right now heavy loads can only be accommodated by one of the ferries, and the DOT says if the water continues to be pushed out of the river that route may have to be temporarily shut down.

Travelers are urged to call the terminal at (252) 447-1055 in advance to make sure it is still operating.
