Sheriff's Office Investigates Drowning Of Elderly Man In Wilson County Creek

An elderly man is dead after law enforcement says he drowned in a creek.

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office says that it is investigating the drowning of 76-year-old Leslie Driver of Elm City. Officials say it happened near Driver’s home on Sharpe Store Road around 2:30 Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say that Driver’s wife went to check on her husband and noticed the front door of their home was opened. When she didn’t see him out walking around, officials she looked toward the creek and noticed his walking cane lying on the ground.

EMS says they tried to resuscitate Driver, but that it was too late by the time he was pulled from the water.
