Man With Broken Bones Escapes Before Car Explodes

State troopers say a man with broken bones in his feet an ankles was able to escape his car before it exploded into flames.

Asher Turner of Williamston is recovering at Pitt County Memorial Hospital after the 1:00 a.m. crash on Highway 64 Alternate in Martin County.

The Highway Patrol says the 20-year-old man's car crashed into a bridge pylon near Shady Acres mobile Home Park between Williamston and Everetts. He managed to get out of his crumpled car and into a ditch where some good Samaritans helped him away from the accident scene before the explosion.

At last check troopers say Turner was in surgery, but is expected to be okay. They have ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash.

A Williamston man was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville early Tuesday after crashing into a bridge pylon. Troopers say he managed to get out of the car and out of harm's way before his station wagon exploded.

The Highway Patrol says 20 year old Asher Turner of Williamston crashed on Highway 64 Alternate near Shady Acres Mobile Home Park, which is between Williamston and Everetts in Martin County. The crash happened shortly after 1 a.m.

Troopers say Turner managed to get out of his crumpled car and into the ditch. Some passersby helped Turner away from the accident scene, thankfully, because his Ford Escort station wagon exploded, the trooper said.

Turner was conscious at Martin General Hospital before he was airlifted to Pitt Memorial.

Troopers are investigating what caused the crash in the first place.

Asher is my older cousin, when I went and saw him today he was doing well. I am thankful that he is still here with us.. All I continued to do is ask for you all to Pray for him and his family as he has to go through one more surgery. He has to go to rehab for his broken legs so just keep him in your prayers.
