Williamston 12U Team Headed To State Tournament, Greenville Team 1 Win Away

The Williamston 12U baseball team won the District 7 Tournament by beating Edenton twice in the finals.

The winner-take-all game at the Chocowinity Sports Complex was played over a span of two nights. The game was postponed in the bottom of the 4th inning late Thursday night when a line of strong thunderstorms settled over the area.

The game resumed on Thursday night. Edenton trailed 7-2 but had the bases loaded and no outs at the re-start of the game. Austin Lee Struck out two batters in the bottom of the 4th but an error in the inning led to two Edenton runs making the game very interesting.

Williamston then answered with four runs in the top of the 5th inning, two by way of a Ty Raynor double to right field, and Williamston went on to win the game 11-7.

Williamston will now head to the State Tournament in Hickory, NC set for the final weekend in July.

District 4 Finals:

Greenville North State beat Greenville Tar Heel 3-2 in the finals of the 11-12 year old District 4 tournament at Elm Street Park in Greenville. the win by North State forces a winner-take-all matchup Friday night at six o'clock for the right to advance to the state tournament.

North State took a 2-0 lead over Tar Heel in the bottom of the second inning when Jackson Stanley ripped a bases loaded single to right field.

North State led 3-0 in the top of the 4th when Tar Heel scored its only runs of the game on a Gray McKenzie base hit that plated two runs.

I stopped reading the post after the 3rd one because I can't believe the stupid comments ADULTS make. All I know is that the 12U boys have more heart and compassion for others than most Adults I know. For them to come to the hospital after the win on Thurs. night to boost the spirits of my Dad "POP" before heart surgery shows us and should show you critics that these BOYS is a wonderful team full of heart. They showed Pop that they could overcome and win against 7 and he could too ( as he did the next morning). This TEAM is great and worked hard and deserved everything that they have gotten...Thank you Boys and get em in State!!!!

To Candy...You sure do have good sportsmanship...could it be because Williamston BEAT Washington...It's sad that you adults act worse than the kids do.If you can't say anything positive...shut up.

Let's set the record straight - Williamston played in an invitational tourney in Ahoskie and made it to the final game which was rained out. Then Williamston beat Ahoskie once and Edenton twice in the District tourney for the Championiship. These young men have more heart than anyone will ever know. They went to PCMH at 9:30 last night to share their trophy with one of biggest fans who has been there since Tuesday. The coaches, parents, and players have a lot to be proud of. Best of Luck in Hickory!

This story was about Williamston winning a district BASEBALL tournament. Softball people, I understand your frustration with the events surrounding the Babe Ruth district and state tounament, but this is not about you. The baseball guys deserve their 15 minutes of fame, let them have it.

first off congrats to all the teams that advanced. Now for the adults from all the teams, show some class and be a role model for the kids. Win lose or draw they are still kids at this point and need to be able to play the game carefree. Sure winning is great but teaching kids life lessons is great too. This brings me to the point of teams advancing after not winning the district or state or whatever. When did striving for 2nd place become ok? The winner should advance, thats it. Adults dont show your tail for whatever reason (cheated, bad calls, unfair) instead take the time to teach that you can't always win and that on that day you got beat. After all some days you win some days you lose and some days it rains thats the way it is.
