Patches of black ice are scattered across Eastern Carolina roadways.
In Beaufort County, for example, primary roads are mostly clear but black ice was evident in many spots Tuedsay morning.
Even though conditions improved on roads in Pitt County Monday, crews worked to treat the roads as much as possible for the overnight hours.
Jeff Cabaniss, county maintenance engineer, says "The thing that motorists need to keep in mind is there are going to be some places, even through tomorrow, that the majority of the road is going to be cleared, maybe even dry, but there will be some places that have some icy patches."
We have one more night ahead of possible black ice, then temperatures will improve dramatically in Eastern Carolina. The high by Friday is expected to be in the mid-60s.
