Great -our town is dead or dying and these bozos want to waste time on immigration. Must be election time. Whip the people up in a hatred frenzy and garner votes with an US againt THEM furor. That's why Washington, NC, and the south in general will always lag behind.

Helen-you are so right. We work, pay our taxes and help them with free lunches, free medical and most don't file taxes. They get paid cash or 1099 and don't file. Most don't have valid social security no. See what happens if we don't pay our taxes. IRSSSSSSSSSSSS will ve coming for us

This is a pointless meeting. Immigration reform will only happen in Washington, D.C., not Washington, N.C. All this does is stoke up the insecurities and ignorance of those who think that immigrants are the cause of all the nation's shortcomings.

Nobody said they were the sole cause of the nations economic woes...BUT - a factor they are and a huge one!

Stand with the illegals and their advocates, we're at critical mass with the immigration mess. Your position is hurting the United States!

I'll stand with the human race, thank you.Illegal immigration is far from the most important issue facing America today. How about our eroding civil liberties and backward laws?Have you heard of the patriot act(so-called)?Now there is something to be mad about.Rapper, maybe you should read it again as it is crystal clear if you have moderate reading skills.

So you are ok with anyone and everyone coming here if they need help?? Stand with the human race - get a grip! We have a nation that we, the American people, work to sustain...this is only sustainable when those "humans" you stand with constribute as well. When they don't, they destroy the country we hold dear and wish to leave to our children!

To c-had: So you're defending illegal immigration because three hundred years ago when half of America had yet to be explored or even have a centralized government, some immigrants helped build the railroad system? Okay, you are crazy, sorry but we're not building railroads anymore nor is the government hiring these people.

Im defending people who are running for their lives.Do not make the mistake of assuming that I think we should abolish our border with Mexico. Some people do not have time to jump through legal hoops. If their life is in danger because they live in an oppresive regime I believe we should welcome them with open arms. This is the America I know. Not this nation of polarized idiots.

You are right, it is not the most important issue but it does not mean we should ignore it either. Also you are right about the eroding civil liberties, especially the one that forces hard working TAXPAYERS to support others who enter this country illegally & commit identity fraud while knocking down the doors of the DSS & hospitals, schools etc. while paying little or no tax & spending enough of their paychecks locally to get by & sending the rest to their families in other countries who either need help or plan to entry this country illegally as well. The border is PORUS....which means anyone can come in the ANYTHING they want. Apparently 911 doesn't mean anything anymore.

Our immigration laws are one of those backward laws, they haven't been updated in years and considering Obama just wants to write it off, I'd say it's pretty important. And where exactly are our civil liberties being threatened, unless you mean those ‘protesters’ that are being arrested for breaking the law and not for ‘protesting’, sorry but if you think people being arrested for throwing rocks at police officers is not a punishable offense then you may want to start questioning your principles. Although, you are sort of right about the Patriot Act, but we don't need to remove it completely; there are some security measures that would be too foolish just get rid of right now.

I love how everyone forgets we are all descendents of immigration and honors some line drawn on the earth. What happened to give us your tired etc.? Simply because the economy is bad some people need a whipping boy.I have news for you folks, the problem is that we dont manufacture anything in this country anymore. Most of you wont work the jobs they do for the wages they do so shut up.Some people immigrate because they are persecuted and fear for their life. How can you be so cold and uncaring.I for one do not stand with you so-called people. No I am not a liberal.

C-had, I think the problem is that illegals are all working for cash and not paying into the tax base that they and their children are consuming from. For instance, it takes money for free lunches, medicaid, school buses, remedial english classes, etc., but the working parents, as illegals, are not paying their fair share of taxes. For me, it is a matter of math.

Its just kind of curious that this became a hot button issue right about the time the economy tanked.Has anyone on this site ever heard of deflection? Just how does this compare with the waste in local and federal government?Im just saying dont get distracted and end up on a witch hunt.Good luck your going to need it ,obviously....

You seem to forget that most people that immigrated when that motto was introduced entered the country legally. The real problem now-a-days is that these people refuse to fix their own countries and then bring their problems with them when they enter illegally. I would gladly work on one of those farms if they would treat me like a human being and pay me a proper wage, unlike with illegal immigrates where they are treated like slaves, but if you like slave labor I guess I can see why you like illegal immigrates. I want them to go home and fix their own countries so every where could be a nice place to live, not just a handful of countries. For me it isn’t about the massive amounts of money that is wasted every year trying to deal with them, it’s the fact that they don’t care enough about their homeland to fix it, so they bring that mentality here and treat our laws the same way. And just so you realize I'm talking about ILLEGAL immigrates, not people who follow the law and try for citizenship, I see no problem for someone that is trying to do things legally working in our country as long as they pay taxes like everyone else, if anything that should make becoming a citizen that much easier.

Maybe not a liberial but still an idiot. What part of illegal don't you get? How about I come over to your house boot your sorry butt out move in 10 or 15 family members and live there off of taxpayer programs until I get ready to go back home? I have spent the past 40 years working and paying taxes so others could sit around and spend my money. I might could have supported more than one child myself had it not been for the taxes wasted on a bunch people that either should have never been born or been here in the first place.

I pay taxes as well and to my knowledge illegal immigrants are not elligible for welfare or other federal aid.Just because something is "illegal" doesnt mean it is wrong.I can think of many laws that are unjust. The abusers of welfare are American born. The vast majority of "illegals" work and spend taxes daily. So who should you really be upset with?

There are some drug addicts out there too that are trying to escape "that" world but I will not let them live in my home...get it?? We cannot just give give give and allow these illegals to have their cake and eat it too....they must go back and immigrate the correct way! My spouse is foreign and guess what...here legally paying taxes and giving to the place which is now home.

maybe we should require all the illegals to take a computer course at the community college. If they took a class under the one know it all computer teacher, they would be so confused and humilated(like my son was), they would go back to whatever county they came from.......no there's a good idea

  • by Are you kidding me! on Nov 15, 2011 at 05:42 AM
This meeting will a joke, and mostly give the advocates a forum to criticize anyone disagreeing with them. The powers that be in Washington and Beaufort County have displayed their weakness and fear time and again when confronted with illegal immigration here. No one has the spine to speak out and take postive action against it with the exception of one or two Commissioners. Law enforcement wants nothing to do with it either. I can't imagine anything coming out of this put-on other than politically correct meanderings about diversity and other liberal garbage. Far too many people don't even care whether immigration laws are enforced. Disgusting!

I tend to agree. Question, how many of these "leaders" are up for re-election this year? I'm like you, I see nothing substantive coming out of this beyond political posturing. And the worst offenders for not caring if immigration laws are inforced are those charged with the responsibility of actually enforcing the laws. Truly disgusting.
