Waitress Accused In Bankcard Theft

A local waitress is in jail, accused of stealing a customer's bankcard number.

Barbara Motter of Goldsboro is charged with identity theft and financial transaction card fraud.

Deputies say Motter memorized the account numbers on the victim's bankcard and used it to pay her own bills and for acquiring minutes for her cell phone. The victim alerted deputies after she noticed charges on her account that were not her own.

Motter was jailed on a $5,500 bond. The Sheriff's Office did not release where the woman worked.

Yes, it does make sense to say where she was working so people that have frequented that place know to double check their bank statements. Small charges, 10 or 15 dollars here and there can be overlooked, especially if you have several debit cards on the same account. Doesn't mean it can't happen anywhere, just makes sense that we should know where it did happen for sure.

It would be nice if you told us where she worked.

Surprised this hasn't happened more often. The restaurants where you give them your card on a little tray with the bill...they take your card and bring it back in a minute... this is when it could happen.

Did she not think that the charges could be traced back to her? Brilliant I tell ya...

Am I understanding this correctly - the woman bought minutes for her own cell phone on a stolen number? Talk about leaving bread crumbs!

This could happen at any restaurant where you send your card with the waitress to be processed.

NewsFlash!!!!!! Anybody you hand your card to can use your number. Any waiter/waitress. Just because one waitress in an establishment was dishonest does not mean that they all are. Judgmental people are the pits!
