We are remembering a special woman.

Fran Williams of Washington died Tuesday. She was 70.

Fran worked at WITN for nearly 48 years, from 1957 to 2005.

In her role as business manager, she mentored many young staff members and managers.

Fran was a part of the evolution of local television over nearly half a century. She often shared her knowledge and stories from the past.

Fran’s love for her family was immense, and she loved to share tales about her grandchildren.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Paul Funeral Home in Washington.

Fran Williams was a friend, mentor and confidant to so many of us at WITN. Her corporate knowledge of WITN was unparallelled and so were her funny stories about what happened behind the scenes. We will all miss Fran!

I was a scared college grad who just landed his first gig in the TV business. Aside from the interview, Fran was the first person at WITN I had to deal with to get me on the books. From that moment on, I knew I could walk into her office and be helped right away. We had some great talks by the pic-nic table out back, and boy could she tell some stories. Saddened to hear of this and I'm praying for both of her families...at home and at work.

It was nice sharing a name with this special lady. My husband, Alan, worked with Fran for many years and she lived just around the corner. I always enjoyed visiting her when I went to the station. She was a very special person who always greeted you with a smile and a big warm hug. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I was only a part of the WITN team for half of Fran's tenure, but Fran was not only the heart and soul of the "front office" at WITN, she was a good neighbor, friend, fellow prankster, a super baby sitter-instructor to her girls, who used to watch Marcus, our now-24 year old! She faced a ton of adversity, misfortune...but always took it in stride...and we ALWAYS got a pay check! Miss her tons...and our thoughts and prayers are with Gary and the girls.

Fran hired me back in 1983 at WITN where she was a wonderful mentor and friend. She was always a very fair and caring person to work with. I have to thank her also for meeting my husband of 25 years because we met at WITN. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

The phrase "one of a kind" was referring to Fran! I came to WITN as a scared intern and stayed for over 7 years. Fran did her best to help me learn the ropes about the tv business and made me laugh more days than I'll ever remember! My prayers are with Lisa and the entire family.

I have known Fran ever since I was a little girl. Her family treated me as though I was one of their own. I loved Fran dearly and will miss her so much. I am praying for her family and may God continue to Bless all of you.

Fran hired me back in 1995 here at WITN. She was a great mentor to me. Without her I would not have a job I love and I am truely grateful to her for that. She will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
