Windy and warm conditions are forecast for Eastern Carolina today. Wind reports have already exceeded 20 miles per hour in all locations with coastal areas reporting 30 mile per hour gusts. These wind gusts are expected to increase to possibly 40 miles per hour this afternoon. The threat of rain will be in the forecast until the early evening before warm and windy conditions return.
A wind advisory is in effect for all of Eastern Carolina, until this evening.
Strong winds can impact high-profile vehicles and blow around loose objects such as garbage cans. Weak or dead trees can be knocked down, causing sporadic power outages.
The wind advisory for most areas is in effect through 9:00 p.m.
There is a coastal flood advisory in effect until 7:00 p.m. for soundside areas of Dare and Hyde counties. Minor soundside flooding is possible, especially through the afternoon hours.
A small craft advisory and a gale warning are also in place along the coast through 9:00 p.m.
