More Than 100 Guns Turned In During Gun Buy Back

Rocky Mount police were not asking questions Tuesday, all in an effort to help get more guns off the streets.

Rocky Mount police collected more than 100 guns during their Gun Buy Back Day.

The event lasted until 6:00 p.m. At 5:30 police say 103 guns had been turned in.

Police paid $50 for rifles or shotguns, $75 for handguns and $100 for assault rifles.

Last year police collected 95 firearms and $4610 was paid out.

Gun Buy-backs are a insult to the intelligence of all good citizen. Does ANYONE think that thugs and ganbangers are turning in their guns? Heck no, they are all HAPPY with gun buy backs, because they know that now there are 100 fewer law-abiding citizens who can defend themselves against violent criminals. Gun Buy Backs CAUSE crime, because they disarm law-abiding citizens, and publicize this fact. The Rockey Mount PD should be disbanded for treason, and conspiracy to commit robbery, because that is what they are doing--giving the criminals a "target-rich environment"... What's worse, is that the people actually buy this load of BS that disarming law-abiding citizens somehow makes our communities safer...

I am so glad I moved out of this city. Gun buy backs are the biggest waste of time and money. How is taking Granddads old shotgun going to help anybody.

What a waste of tax payer money! Nothing but a lame PR attempt. How many guns really came "off the street"? None would be my guess.

I think this is an exceptional program, anyone who is stupid enough to sell thier firearms like this doesn't deserve to own protection. Now, if we could just stop these people from reproducing!

Anybody who would buy in to that type of nonsense from the police is too stupid to own a gun. What the heck is wrong with you fools?

Guns being stolen from eastern NC have been finding their way to Rocky Mount. If my guns get stolen and turn up in the Rocky Mount police buy back program I will consider suing. It's called possesion of stolen property. I was alway's told the buyer's (pawn shops) were the cause of the stealing anyway. Nice to see the police join this group. :(

Wow Greg, you are a smart one! If your stolen gun gets turned in at the gun but back then you get it back DA.

If you reported the gun stolen and you have serial numbers/etc you will get it back. I doubt someone who is going to steal your firearms is going to go directly to law enforcement to sell it. But if they do, LE in Rocky Mount will have logs of what they bought back.

I encourage others to take advantage of the police buy back program. Consider getting rid of old rifles and pistols just sitting in the closet esp. if you don't intend to use them, don't allow someone to steal your old guns. The extra money is great.
